Revisiting the Gow Lake impact structure, Saskatchewan, Canada

چکیده
The ~5 km diameter Gow Lake impact structure formed in the Canadian Shield of northern Saskatchewan approximately 197 Myr ago. This has not been studied detail since its discovery during a regional gravity survey early 1970s. We report here on field observations from 2011 expedition that, when combined with subsequent laboratory studies, have revealed wealth new information about this poorly structure. Initially considered to be prototypical central peak (i.e., complex) structure, our demonstrate that is actually transitional making it one only two identified Earth. Despite age, well-preserved sequence crater-fill impactites preserved Calder Island middle Lake. From base upward, stratigraphy parautochthonous target rock, lithic breccia, clast-rich melt red clast-poor and green rocks. Discontinuous lenses melt-bearing breccia also occur near top rocks uppermost vitric particles these breccias display irregular contorted outlines. This, together their setting within rocks, indicative an origin as flows transient cavity airborne mode origin. Following impact, hydrothermal system was initiated, which resulted alteration impactites. Major phases are nontronite clay, K-feldspar, quartz.

Draft Genome Sequence of Rheinheimera sp. KL1, Isolated from a Freshwater Lake in Southern Saskatchewan, Canada
Rheinheimera sp. KL1 was isolated from an algal bloom in Katepwa Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. The isolate shares genetic and physiological similarities with Rheinheimera tangshanensis. The genome is estimated to be 4,295,060 bp in length with a GC content of 46.37%. Sequence analysis suggests the strain carries a previously uncharacterized prophage.
متن کاملMineralogical controls on aluminum and magnesium in uranium mill tailings: Key Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada.
The mineralogy and evolution of Al and Mg in U mill tailings are poorly understood. Elemental analyses (ICP-MS) of both solid and aqueous phases show that precipitation of large masses of secondary Al and Mg mineral phases occurs throughout the raffinate neutralization process (pH 1-11) at the Key Lake U mill, Saskatchewan, Canada. Data from a suite of analytical methods (ICP-MS, EMPA, laborato...
متن کاملGeochemical and Petrographic Study of Melt Veins at the West Clearwater Lake Impact Structure, Canada
The formation of central uplifts in complex impact craters is poorly understood. It is generally accepted that a weakening mechanism is a necessary precursor to accommodate such a large movement of rock. It has been hypothesized that impact-generated melt may have a significant role in weakening the rock of a crater floor to allow for uplift, but it is uncertain if this melt rock is a product o...
متن کاملThe mineralogy of arsenic in uranium mine tailings at the Rabbit Lake In-pit Facility, northern Saskatchewan, Canada
A detailed investigation of the mineralogy of As in the tailings of the Rabbit Lake uranium ore processing facility was conducted. The milling/ ore extraction process was sampled at three different locations to obtain information about when, where and under what condition secondary As phases form. These samples were compared with four samples of varying As content from the Rabbit Lake in-pit ta...
